Protect Your Home With Bahama Shutters for Georgia Weather
When it comes to storm season in the south, it’s nothing to take lightly. In fact, Hurricane Isaias in 2026 just left thousands of folks without power throughout the metro Atlanta area and posed threats of flash floods and tornadoes.
Being prepared for all sorts of weather, whether it’s a passing thunderstorm or the remnants of a tropical storm moving into our area, is key to keeping your loved ones and residence safe. With Bahama Shutters, you can protect your home while enhancing its appearance.
These exterior shutters hang on the outside of your windows, where they take that weather before your glass does. Our skilled team at Metro Shutters & Blinds near Marietta, GA, manufactures these outdoor solutions for local homeowners and is here to explain what these panels do and what they offer that other products don’t.
When Is Hurricane Season?
Hurricane season on the Gulf and east coasts typically runs from June 1 through November 30. Of those months, September is a particularly active month for tropical storms.
Does Metro Atlanta Feel the Effects of Hurricane Season?
Yes, even right here in the middle of Georgia, we can feel the effects of the storms down south. Storms that come ashore usually reach Northern Georgia with strong winds and heavy rain, triggering power outages and toppling trees.
Our hurricane impacts are nothing like those on the front lines of these storms. However, they’re still capable of causing damage sometimes, making it worthwhile to invest in products that can help save you some headaches later on.
So, What Are Bahama Shutters for Sun and Storm Protection?
Bahama Shutters are a practical yet aesthetically pleasing exterior shutter that provides your home or business with a layer of storm protection at your windows. Typically, they consist of one louvered panel hinged at the top of the window.
Support arms push the bottom of the panel away from the house and hold it at a specific angle. That angle casts a shadow across the glass during the hottest hours, while fresh air and daylight still come through the louvers. Release the arms, and the panel swings down flat against the window. In that position, it covers the glass, blocks the view from the street, and stays put through wind and rain.
Why Choose Bahama Shutters Compared to Other Storm Shutters?
Most outdoor shutters require you to carry panels out of the garage or storage and bolt them on. With Bahama Shutters, they stay mounted year-round and take only a few seconds to change their position.
Additionally, these exterior shutters offer some of the most stylish options, allowing you to customize them to your needs and design preferences. After all, storm readiness doesn’t need to be boring or even the same as your neighbors down the block.
How Do Exterior Window Shutters Handle Georgia Weather
Tropical storm winds and rain cause most of the damage when hurricane remnants reach our area. Gusty winds can knock over trees, which can hit or break your windows without exterior shutters protecting them, causing costly repairs.
Additionally, water running down a window finds its way into the sills, casings, and paint over the years, and an exterior louvered panel angled above the glass throws most of that water clear of the window before it lands.
The same angle keeps direct sun off the pane during July and August, taking some load off your air conditioning and slowing fading on floors and furniture inside.
